Suchir Salhan is the Founder and Director of Cambridge University's newest publication, Per Capita and the Founder & President of Gonville & Caius College's Media & Journalism Society. He has interviewed Cambridge's youngest Black Professor Jason Arday and Winner of the Brain Prize, Christine Holt.
Academia & Research
Suchir has worked as an independent researcher in the Language Technology Lab working with Nigel Collier and Fangyu Liu (now Google DeepMind) on multimodal Vision-Language Models, and is currently working with Dr Andrew Caines and Professor Paula Buttery to improve the cross-linguistic capabilities of Transformer-based Language Models. Preliminary Findings of his research on Large Language Models have been published in Vol XV of The Cambridge Occasional Papers in Linguistics, available here.
He has an active interest in public policy, editing and co-authoring a policy paper on Cybersecurity and Decentralised Technologies, presented in St John's College, University of Cambridge. He is the Head of Policy and previous Head of Events of The Wilberforce Society, including hosting the Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka in January 2024.

Co-founded by Suchir Salhan, Per Capita Media is a progressive, independent publication open for all university, sixth-form and secondary school students across the UK, covering News, Features & Culture. Since the publication's establishment in August 2023, it has received interest from journalists at The Times and The Sunday Times. It is a Registered Club & Society of the University of Cambridge. The publication is supported by Lady Stothard, Dr Ruth Scurr FRSL– a Fellow at Gonville & Caius College, the University of Cambridge. Scurr was a judge for the Man Booker Prize in 2007 and the Baillie Gifford Prize panel in 2023. She frequently contributes to The Times Literary Supplement and was previously the Editor of The Mays Anthology in her student days at Cambridge. To date, the publication has student contributors from Oxford University, the University of the Arts, London (Central St Martins & London College of Fashion) and UCL.
